Santiago de los Caballeros.- Opposition PRD presidential candidate Hipólito Mejía has dismissed the latest Wikileaks US embassy cable that comments on the case of drug trafficker Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo, who was arrested in 2004.
"I knew all those things", he said.
The opposition leader, who was president between 2000-2004, argued that these reports combine truth with imagination, which makes him laugh. “I laugh at Wikileaks”, he said.
He was responding to the latest Wikileaks cable release, which revealed that Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo, now in jail in the United States, had bribed Dominican politicians and military officials, and that for this reason the U.S. did not want him to be tried in the Dominican Republic.
Mejía immediately went on to say that at the moment he heads the preferences of the national electorate to win the presidential elections of May 20th 2012.
He stated that he is topping the polls commissioned by his work team and those ordered by the opposition, as well as the independent surveys.
The presidential candidate was speaking in Gurabo on Wednesday, where he was attending Mass as part of the local patron saint’s day celebrations.
